Namaste, My Humanities in Medicine DEI Diversity Equity and Inclusion family,

Dr. Watson here for this week’s Humanities in Medicine DEI Weekly Wrap Up!

A weekly tidbit illustrative of the significance and virtues of various findings in the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) arena, occasional healthcare and popular culture literature excerpts, and touches of humor and musicality.

For the Week of 4/26/23: HIM DEI Weekly Wrap Up 16: Syrian Healthcare Humanitarian Aid

As the majority of you are well aware, the month of April has been designated Arab American History Month. It is a period of time in which we are urged to celebrate, reflect upon, and honor the contributions of our Arab American friends, achievers, pioneers, and trailblazers from all aspects of life. Before the earthquakes healthcare settings in northern Syria were already struggling to support the 14.6 million people urgently needing medical care. The hospital and its associated health centers and mobile clinics specialize in providing care for mothers and babies, as well as providing local treatment for injuries and diseases, and treating sick children. Syria’s healthcare system is simply unable to cope. Let us be the change we want to see in the world. My healthcare DEI family, if you can, show Syrian hospitals some support the Humanities in Medicine way!
