How do you stay true to your instincts and commit to doing what brings you joy — in a world where virility and follower gains are king?
Heather Chelan, more popularly known as Heb on the Web, knows first hand how addictive and influential the viral content drug can be. The fun, the fame, and the fear of it all never happening again has led many influencers and businesses down a dark and lonely path. Most of us have had the experience at some point ourselves, even if on a much smaller scale. It feels good to be liked, and feels not-so-good when we aren’t getting the love we crave.
While we have a lot of fun talking about taco costumes, dresses with pockets, the cost of an oat milk latte, and professional colorful hair, Heb also speaks honestly about her social experience, and what she’s done to create from her own heart. We also dip into our own achiever syndrome, discuss the mindset that has helped us break free of the limits an addiction to praise can set on us, and why we should create regardless.
A wonderful quote she shared in the episode that is keeping her moving forward in a grounded way is:

“You can never connect the dots moving forward but you can always connect them looking backward.”

After listening to this episode, journal on these questions:

  • How can I better connect with myself today? What do I need right now?
  • Am I surrounding myself with people who are helping me let out my inner weirdo? Who are the people in my life who allow it to come out and play?
  • What are some moments in my day where I can embrace boredom?
