A leading pioneer in the field of sports science, Lia's research uncovers the unexpected ways physical fitness and self-concept influence sexual functioning. From how cursing can enhance exercise performance to the fascinating correlation between testosterone and finger length, Lia's insights challenge conventional thinking in the most intriguing ways.
Dr. Lia Jiannine is a Florida Native. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Florida’s College of Health and Human Performance. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Sport Science with a cognate in Public Health. Her Ph.D. was centered around the merging of Health Science and Exercise Physiology, and she gained a deeper understanding of sexual health when writing her dissertation, “Sex-Positive Curricula: An Investigation of the Relationship Between Physical Fitness, Self-Concept, and Sexual Functioning.”
She is currently an Associate Professor in Exercise Science at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Jiannine’s research interests focus on physical fitness, supplements, and sexual functioning. Additionally, she researches the validity of body composition analysis methods as well as the effectiveness of NFL combine training programs.
Dr. Jiannine is a Certified Exercise Physiologist of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a Certified Sports Nutritionist of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) of the National Commission of Health Education credentialing and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Dr. Jiannine was initially asked by PBS to film one episode of Smartlife, which is the The Health Channel’s flagship show featuring experts on a wide variety of topics. It is a daily, fast-paced, and entertaining 2-hour program that brings reliable and accurate health and wellness information. PPS invited Dr. Jiannine back to film five more episodes and then offered her own T.V. Show titled “Sex Talk with Dr. Lia.” Each episode of SEX TALK is 30-minutes, featuring short videos that dispel sex myths, examine the science of sex, and highlight different aspects of sexual health. Callers are given the opportunity to email or call in questions and Dr. Jiannine answers 8 to 12 question per episode. Sex Talk provides healthy guidelines for sexual behavior in an environment for self-fulfillment and healthy sexual expression.
