Yesterday and today

Experiences from the past can give us knowledge;

Plans for the future can provide us with direction.

It is necessary to give attention to both,

as we all have end of the year performance reviews,

new year resolutions, etc.

Satisfaction from bygone achievements

or frustration caused by past failures

is called clinging;

disappointment and remorse due to unachieved future plans

is also called clinging.

Deal with whatever comes, and let go of whatever’s gone.

One would be easily caught up in emotions and afflictions

by not seeing the rise and fall of causes and conditions for what they are,

and hoping in vain that things would stand still from a certain moment.

Instead,we should learn from the past,

When setting goals for the future,

what should be done as a “cause”,

not what should be gained as an “effect”.

With a new year come new causes and conditions.

Seize the present and work hard.


昨日今日

过去的经历,

可以给我们经验;

对未来的规划,可以给我们方向,

回忆和展望都是必要的,

每个人都要做年终总结、

新年规划等等。


躺在过去的成绩上

或消沉于过去的失败中,

是谓执著;

计划的未来没有实现,

就懊恼失望,是谓执著。


“事来则应,事去不留”,

是要我们正确面对因缘的生灭变化,
不粘着于事情的某一个状态,

否则就容易产生种种情绪、烦恼。

每经历一件事情,

都要从中汲取营养,

譬如总结经验、结交善缘、

不忘恩德,这都是为了推动

更美好的未来。


所谓规划未来

最重要的是计划
因地应该做些什么,

而不是果上能够得到什么。

新的一年,新的因缘,

从当下开始努力。
