Those who’ve been in sales for long enough know that more than anything else, sales is art. It’s a combination of firm intelligence and life skills, mastery of which requires an indomitable zest to improve and learn.

In today’s episode, Alex interviews the brilliant CRO of Braze, London, Daniel Head. With a Manufacturing Systems Engineering degree from the elite Coventry University, switching to a blazingly different career path wasn’t planned. Working at the helpdesk for an ERP system post graduation, Dan got interested in learning more about the systems and processes that ran businesses. Add his fascination for the sales profession, and he knew that sales was his calling.

Daniel shares many valuable lessons from his decades-long career, including the common mistakes made and how to keep away from them. He shares that the greatest competitive threat salespeople face is the lack of time; that the best salespersons can manage their time effectively.

Moving from an individual role to a leadership role taught Daniel the importance of management skills. He fundamentally disagrees that management is a destination people must try to get to early on in their careers because it takes tremendous patience, skills, and competitiveness to do justice to it. At the highest point in your career, there’s no place to go other than the bottom. Staying there takes fierce competitiveness and self-growth.

To part with, Daniel adds that elite-level salespersons take ownership of their actions; they curate their careers with intention.
Key talking points:

● Time-management in sales

● Why the management ladder isn’t an easy climb

● Taking ownership of your career

● Sales success is a product of intelligence and soft skills
