Relationships are essential. Relationships help us get things done. And especially as women, our closest relationships have a tremendous impact on how we see ourselves and experience our everyday world. That’s why today I’m kicking off another mini-series called Women’s Essential Relationships. Together, we’re going to explore our relationships as adult women with senior parents, romantic partners, siblings, and female friends. Having been on this planet for several decades we’ve had chip happen in these relationships. How have these moments shaped us and at this point, what can we do to use those moments to become stronger, healthier, and happier?

Today we are talking about breakup breakthroughs. If you’ve been in a romantic relationship where you believed it was your forever, and then it’s suddenly over, then you know the heartache and you have lots of questions that haunt you like “Will I ever get over it?”, “Why didn’t I see the signs?” and “Will I be able to love again?”

Today’s gal pal Dr. Sherri has been there. She started using her clinical psychology training to identify and navigate through these questions to get to the other side and thrive again. Her book Breakup Breakthroughs: Asking and Answering the Hard Questions So You Can Thrive in the Trauma of a Relationship Breakup, serves as an invitation to the ultimate act of self-love, to understand yourself, your desires, expectations, motivations, and patterns on a deeper, more intentional level than ever before.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Why pain is an essential part of thriving
  • Why we don’t see the signs of a breakup
  • What it really means to love yourself
  • Tips for letting a relationship go after a breakup

Here’s a glance:

[6:18] Dr. Sherri goes deeper into why Dark Purple or Black are her go-to colors and how it nails her.

[12:09] Dr. Sherri recounts the relationship breakup that inspired her to write her insightful book, Breakup Breakthroughs.

[18:13] As a thought coach, Dr. Sherri stresses the necessary component of pain in growth and how growth is an essential part of thriving.

[21:34] Mary asks Dr. Sheri to expound on three of the twelve questions from her book Breakup Breakthroughs.

[46:29] Dr. Sherri shares her hopes and intentions for anyone who reads her book.

[55:49] In the Flip the Chip segment, Mary highlights three of the questions Dr. Sherri suggests to guide you to your breakup breakthroughs.
