Think of your very best and your … not the greatest … qualities. Do you think they’re genetic or acquired via adapting to the environment around you? Is it nature or nurture? The answer: Probably both. Further, they’re probably influenced by the experiences and environments your parents, grandparents or great-grandparents were exposed to.
In this episode, Expert-in-residence Dr. Jillian Pintye, PhD, nurse scientist and epidemiologist, joins Mike and Helena on A Coach, a Nutritionist and an Expert Walk Into a Podcast to unpack how the environment around us shapes us. Our physical environment, our diet, the medications we take, our social interactions, our gut microbiome, the inflammation in our bodies, world events all affect our bodies, minds and wellbeing—from in-utero through adulthood.
Some of the topics we explore, include:
🎙️The effects, in-utero through childhood, of preventative and treatment medications for HIV
🎙️The microbiome (gut and vaginal) and their role in disease
🎙️How the environment contributes to inflammation
🎙️The role of inflammation in disease
🎙️Generational trauma
Dr. Jillian Pintye, RN, MPH, PhD is trained as both a nurse and epidemiologist and serves on faculty at the University of Washington in Seattle.
