Today, I’m sharing a mind-blowing idea that changed how I tackle goals — like losing weight for good. When I was struggling to lose weight, I'd always focus on outcomes, like dropping pounds on the scale, but I really struggled with consistency. I've since learned that one of the most powerful tools you can have in your lifelong weight loss toolbox is changing your identity. In other words, I had to take an inside-out approach by thinking of myself differently. I had to think and eat like a 'naturally thin' person by focusing on who I'm becoming, not what I'm doing. In today's episode, I break down the three different layers to this process. The deepest one — identity — is where your permanent weight loss happens. Instead of ‘I want to lose weight,’ I wanted to become the kind of person who didn't use food as an emotional crutch on a hard day. Every small step, like eating well, proves it to me. Tiny actions, like waiting until I'm hungry to eat, helped me rewrite how I see myself. It wasn't an instant change, obviously, but I was able to be consistent. I decided who I wanted to be and practiced mirroring that behavior daily. Want to learn how to THINK and EAT like a 'naturally thin' person? It’s about adopting their inner psychology and eating habits, not just hitting a number in My Fitness Pal. Check out this episode for the full scoop — I can't wait to tell you about this life-changing strategy! In this episode, we dive into the real reason many struggle with weight loss: it's not about losing weight, it's about adopting the mindset and eating habits of a 'naturally thin' person that you can maintain for the rest of your life. We explore a thought-provoking Reddit post from a woman who has recently lost and regained 80 pounds, realizing that the key to lasting success isn’t found in quick fixes or temporary diets. Instead, she recognizes the importance of consistency and how having the right mindset is essential for long-term weight maintenance. If you've ever found yourself feeling frustrated after regaining weight, join us in this week's episode of the Outsmart Overeating podcast as we discuss how lifelong weight loss isn't about counting calories or avoiding specific foods. At 25, we reach physical maturity, but emotional and psychological maturity often comes much later — if it happens at all. By then, our minds are filled with beliefs, perspectives, and rules from others: parents, teachers, media, society. These ideas, many of them not our own, often shape our lives without us even realizing it. We’ve internalized everything from diet advice to life expectations, but most of it is subconscious and not even true. By age 30, we may start to see this mental clutter, but letting go of these deeply embedded ideas is like cleaning out a hoarder's house. Emotional attachments to these beliefs make it hard to separate from them. Yet, without clearing out the mental junk, we’ll never truly think for ourselves, never truly know who we are. In this episode, we’ll dive into the process of decluttering your mind—learning to examine your thoughts and beliefs, keeping only what serves you, and freeing yourself from the unnecessary baggage holding you back. In today’s episode, we dive into a thought-provoking Reddit post from a woman who has recently realized that despite losing 100 pounds, she's still struggling with mental health challenges she had BEFORE she lost the weight. As many people do, she was absolutely certain that if she got to a comfortable weight, that her problems would simply melt away with the fat that she was losing. She discusses how after being overweight and unhappy her whole life, she mistakenly believed that the reason she was unhappy must have been because of her size. Unfortunately, that didn't happen for her. Join me in this week's episode of the Outsmart Overeating podcast as I discuss how changing your weight won't guarantee happiness, because unhappiness happens in your mind. In today’s episode, we dive into a thought-provoking Reddit post from a male dieter struggling to stay on track with his healthy eating goals, especially when the evening rolls around. He describes how he can manage balanced meals during the first part of the day, but come evening, something shifts. The urge to binge on junk food—chocolate, chips, anything he can get his hands on—takes over. This compulsion, he explains, doesn’t even seem related to actual hunger, but more of a ritual or psychological need to eat, even when he’s not hungry. We break down what might be behind this phenomenon: Is it the body’s natural hunger cues and circadian rhythm at play, or could it be deeper-rooted compulsive eating habits? How do emotional triggers, boredom, and stress contribute to these after-hours cravings? We also explore how this behavior sabotages his diet goals, preventing him from achieving a calorie deficit and sticking to a sustainable eating plan. Join us as we share insights, strategies, and practical tips to help manage evening eating habits, understand the role of emotional regulation in diet, and offer suggestions for healthier coping mechanisms. Could shifting meal timing, addressing psychological triggers, or creating a more mindful evening routine make a difference? Tune in to find out! Whether you’re struggling with similar challenges or just curious about the psychology of eating, this episode is packed with valuable advice on how to break the evening snack trap and build a healthier, more balanced approach to eating throughout the day. If you want to be someone who rarely thinks about food and feels completely in control of what you eat in a way that feels easy, then you have to learn how to adopt the inner psychology and eating habits of a ‘naturally thin’ person. The glaring difference between the lifestyle of Burned Out Dieter vs the lifestyle of the ‘Naturally Thin’ is that they’re both making drastically different decisions based on their inner psychology and daily eating habits. So for example, a ‘naturally thin’ person who eats consistent portions at every meal for years is on autopilot. Meanwhile, Dieters who are constantly getting on and off track with their eating — have created a habit of restrict-then-overeat. They also do things like: Eat according to calories, how much food is on their plate, and what the clock says Clean their plate at every meal Consistently eat second servings Eat when they’re procrastinating, bored, or stressed So, the question then becomes, how do we choose to do the things that ‘naturally thin’ people do consistently? The diet industry will tell you that it’s about “eating less and moving more” and while that’s factually accurate, it’s shit advice and only half of the conversation. Everyone already knows what they should be doing to lose weight. The question is WHY aren’t they doing it? No one in the diet industry wants to touch this question. It’s easier to talk about eating protein, vegetables, and tracking your calories…but it’s also why 95% of dieters are failing at long-term weight loss. Answering this question requires understanding how your inner psychology influences your eating behaviors. Join me on today's episode as we discuss a Reddit post to help you unravel your ties to emotional eating and develop the eating habits of the 'naturally thin'. As we kick off 2025, many dieters are setting ambitious weight loss resolutions — hoping this year will be the one they finally achieve their goal, but the truth is, only 9% will actually be successful. So what do those successful 9% know that the other 91% don't? The secret often lies in understanding the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In this episode, we dive into these two powerful forces driving human behavior. Intrinsic motivation comes from within—you’re motivated by personal satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment, or the joy of healthy living. When you tap into intrinsic motivation, weight loss becomes about more than just the number on the scale; it's about feeling better by living in alignment with your values. On the flip side, extrinsic motivation relies on external rewards like praise, attention, acceptance, etc. While these can give you a temporary boost, they’re unsustainable in the long run. Join us as we explore how to balance both types of motivation so you can stay on track and turn your dream into a reality. From finding joy in the process to setting realistic external milestones, you’ll learn how to tap into the power of both motivations to create lasting change and finally achieve your weight loss resolution. Ready to make 2025 your year? Tune in for practical tips and actionable strategies to help you start — and finish — your journey with confidence! Break the cycle of holiday weight gain by taking control of EXACTLY what and how much you eat using the 7 simple steps outlined in The Ultimate Toolkit to Stop Holiday Overeating. No foods off limits. No counting calories. No drama. The average adult will DOUBLE their alcohol consumption during the holidays and as a dieter you know, that throwing back boozy drinks can easily prevent you from progressing on your weight loss goal. Typical diet advice is to limit your intake and to choose the lowest calorie option (I'm looking at you Vodka & Soda with lime), but does this actually help? Or, does it hurt? And what about the eating!? You can't possibly uncork a bottle of wine without cheese and crackers, right? I mean, that would be criminal. And you deserve it. After all, you've worked hard all year and it's the holidays! This is no time to be a Scrooge. We all know that you can't nurse a hangover the next day without a greasy cheeseburger and fries, right? After all, something has to soak up all that booze! Basically, dieters do everything wrong when it comes to consuming alcohol. This episode is going to turn everything you think you know about drinking and weight loss, upside down. And that's a good thing! Because what you're doing hasn't worked. In this episode, I share exactly how I eat, drink, and be merry without the holiday weight gain. Isn't it time for you to put the joy back into eating and drinking, too? Break the cycle of holiday weight gain by taking control of EXACTLY what and how much you eat using the 7 simple steps outlined in The Ultimate Toolkit to Stop Holiday Overeating. No foods off limits. No counting calories. No drama. This week marks the beginning of several weeks of holidays. That means parties, family gatherings, and lots of food. Thanksgiving is all about being grateful for what we have, who we are connected to in our lives. But too often, for most, it’s all about the food. The turkey. The stuffing. The pies. The side dishes. Need I go on? You don’t have to go to your holiday meals carrying a small Tupperware container with veggies and cottage cheese. That’s old school, right? You are here to live your life and that includes enjoying good food. But that doesn’t have to mean that you leave this holiday being as stuffed as the turkey. I want you to feel excited going into this holiday, not dreading it. So this week, Coach Steph and I talk about dealing with this holiday season in a way that allows for pleasure, but still leaves you in charge of what you do, how you eat and how you feel. I’m going to show you how to think going into these celebrations, what to do, and how to create an occasion for yourself that you can look back at and feel proud. Proud of yourself for keeping your word to yourself, AND still enjoying all of the food. Can you do it? After listening to this episode, I have NO DOUBT. Break the cycle of holiday weight gain by taking control of EXACTLY what and how much you eat using the 7 simple steps outlined in The Ultimate Toolkit to Stop Holiday Overeating. No foods off limits. No counting calories. No drama. As a dieter, I was a gold medalist in "grazing”. Primarily because I was constantly trying to eat the least amount of food possible at every eating event — or at least stay within my feeble boundary of the day — which left me perpetually unsatisfied, running back and forth to the kitchen continuously throughout the day. (I’m pretty sure this isn’t what the fitness industry meant when promoting 10,000 steps a day.) It never occurred to me that I could go to a restaurant and order what I really wanted for dinner… right off the entrée menu… without having to ask for anything "on the side." Even when I was "off track," I never gave myself permission to go to a restaurant and order something truly filling and satisfying. Instead, I'd rummage through my cabinets grabbing handfuls of nuts and spoonfuls of peanut butter until I felt sick. And this is exactly why I could never lose those last stubborn 10-15 pounds. Join me in this episode as I discuss the #1 mistake most dieters are making and they don't even realize it. I'll also reveal the simple yet delicious tweak I made to my eating that changed everything for me.
