Veterans In Politics Episode 10 with Alicia Kearns MP
Alicia Kearns was elected in 2019, succeeding Sir Alan Duncan in the Rutland and Melton seat. Prior to being elected, she worked in counter-terrorism working at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and then as an independent consultant across the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans. Although not a military veteran herself, she has worked throughout her career with many of us from the armed forces including serving in the MOD, and understands our people, culture and values well. In this episode, we explore this more deeply.
You will find Alicia a breath of fresh air. Confident and unapologetically authentic, she is just what politics needs right now. To get where she has go to, she points to not changing for anyone and her desire to not sit back and watch but to put her head above the parapet. She has worked hard in life, and in this chat, you get a sense not only of her public duty, but also about who she is in that people can take her as they find her. And we think you will like what you see and hear.
Understandably, Alicia is at home with many of the military cohort of politicians in Parliament right now and mentions this in the episode. She also speaks of her willingness to help her opponents in political selections, something that we havent heard of before! But that's reflective of the person she is, and we commend you to listen to and share this episode.
