Veterans In Politics Episode 9 with Andrew Lewer MBE MP
Andrew is the only MP in Parliament to have served at every level of government, having been a Parish councillor, District councillor, County Councillor (and Leader), European Parliamentarian and now, UK Parliamentarian. He was awarded his MBE for services to local government in 2014, and remains a passionate supporter of this form of political service. So you can expect us to cover a lot of ground in this episode that is reflective of a life dedicated to public service.
Though Andrew is not a military veteran, he's a veteran of politics. Given his extensive experience, we wanted to share his story with those looking at, or with an interest in, politics and we are sure that this covers a wide audience of you our listeners. He is a huge supporter of the armed forces, and regularly speaks of them in the Chamber of the House of Commons, and often visits his Northampton South Army Reserve Unit, 103 Battalion REME. He also hosts members of the armed forces in Parliament on occasion for visits.

This conversation is packed full of Andrew's experience. He talks about the political opportunities that have arisen in his career, exactly what it's like working for Priti Patel MP the Home Secretary, and evangelises the transferable skills of the armed forces in politics. He has had first hand experience of the latter, having worked alongside elected veterans in local government.
