Sometimes the best-laid plans just don't happen.
I was scheduled to speak at a conference in October of 2020 in Miami which also happened to fall on the son's 18th birthday. We decided to make a quick trip to Europe while flying some unique planes, going to the Mercedes and Porsche museums, and riding a unique train in Switzerland that is currently being rebuilt making it more common with other trains in Switzerland.
Well, you can guess what happened. At first, I hope that the COVID-19 crisis would pass before our trip but as the summer of 2020 continued on it was clear that going to Europe was going to be out of the question. It was not until late September that I was finally notified that the conference I was supposed to speak at was going to virtually so I would not need to head to Miami.
Instead, we made new plans which meant staying in the United States but still doing things that my son would enjoy for his birthday plus a few surprises thrown in.
