This week on the podcast, I spoke with Jacinta Taylor, who is the founder of Laminated Cotton Shop, an online store selling handmade, reuasable and eco-friendly products.
Jacinta began her business nearly a decade ago after the birth of her kids. She realised that working a busy 9-to-5 corporate job as an accountant wasn't suited to motherhood and so she launched the biz despite having any prior experience in running an online shop.
Jacinta has had her ups and downs but her store has grown to servicing a number of customers Australia-wide (plus a few overseas customers too!).
In the podcast, we talk about:

  • What laminated cotton is and how it's different to many products on the Australian market.
  • How Jacinta built her online store herself and how it became a success, because she had a unique product, without any prior experience.
  • How Jacinta had only sewn as a hobby before creating her business, and how she improves her sewing skills by tapping into a network of local mums.
  • The ways in which Jacinta was required to pivot her business in order to survive during COVID.
  • The difficult staffing decisions Jacinta had to make during COVID, while living in the city that experienced the longest lockdown in the world.
  • The growth eco-friendly businesses have seen over the years, and what that's meant for Lamintated Cotton Shop.
  • How Jacinta has navigated business challenges such as rising shipping costs.

…and loads, loads more.

If you have ever been curious about what it takes to launch an online business shopfront, then this is the episode for you.
