Lauren Hug is my guest in this episode as we discuss her new podcast “Vulnerable Creatures” with Co-host Matthew Schniper.
Vulnerable Creatures ||

A kitten is injured. Christian Breuer, a young autistic man, is the only suspect. His fiancee triggers an animal cruelty investigation, then disappears. Christian faces charges based on a faulty affidavit, compelled into a calloused legal system which has little understanding of and makes no considerations for his disability.

Lauren references the creation of the podcast in our conversation last spring and while the conversation starts with the background of the podcast, the conversation evolves to a deeper conversation. As a former lawyer, we cover the legal system (in Colorado Springs and throughout the US), the challenges of autism and individuals on the spectrum and the evolution of communication. We investigate how our law enforcement, legal system and society engage with one another and how that relationship may need to be reconsidered.

We talk a bit about self care and energy management, leaning into the connectedness and flow.

While the topics we flow through have a lot of weight to them, the conversation is hopeful and coming from a maternal, socially engaged perspective. Looking to the future we discuss the internet. We touch on “The Web of Meaning” by Jeremy Lent (which we’ll cover in a podcast/book club soon).

If you or someone you know is struggling with domestic violence (in the Colorado Springs area) please have them reach out to Tessa Colorado Springs.

Looking for a pet, I’m actually a huge fan of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. They’ve helped me find a few new family members and have also been kind enough to retrieve a few of my lost pets.
