Patellar tendinopathy is a common issue in sports physical therapy, and we've got all the insider knowledge you need. From Anatomy to injury mechanisms and treatment options, we've got you covered. **Anatomy and Injury Mechanisms** The patellar tendon runs from the base of the patella to the tibial tuberosity, translating forces during knee extension and stabilizing the patella during various movements. Repetitive stress and overuse, especially in sports like basketball, volleyball, and track, can lead to microtears and pain in the tendon. **Treatment Options** In the beginning phase (lasting around 1-4 weeks), we'll focus on symptom modification, gentle strength training, and muscle flexibility. We'll also help you with activity modification to keep you moving without exacerbating the condition. In the middle phase (around 4-8 weeks), we'll progress to progressive strengthening, neuromuscular control, and dynamic movements. We'll address muscle imbalances and ensure you feel confident and stable in your movements. In the late phase (8 weeks and beyond), we'll go for aggressive strength, return-to-sport drills, agility, power, and plyometrics. We want you back at 100% and performing at your best! **Workout Fun!** Throughout your rehab journey, we'll tailor exercises specifically for you. From isometrics and split squats to linear accelerations and sprints, we'll make sure you enjoy challenging yourself while healing. Remember, it's all about load management. Listen to your body, stay within your pain tolerance (around 0-3 out of 10), and be patient with yourself. Recovery takes time, but with our guidance, you'll be back in action in no time!
