Talk with Nikki Marczak, genocide scholar

Nikki Marczak is a scholar of genocide. She did a lot of research on the Arminian case, interviewed yasidi women and looked at what happened to the Rohingya people. This is a talk about what leads to genocide and how we can detect early warning signs and prevent atrocity. It's also a talk of two descendants of survivors. The grandparents of Nikki Marczak survived the holocaust. My father survived the persecution of my grandfather, a political enemy to the Nazi regime, and the horrors of World War II.

Nikki Marczak ist Genozid-Forscherin. Wenn sie davon erzählt, was sie macht, rümpfen die Menschen oft die Nase. Denn viele finden diese Forschungsgebiet durchaus morbide. Und, ja, oft genug fragt Nikki Marczak sich auch selber, warum sie ausgerechnet dort forscht - in den Abgründen der menschlichen Existenz. Der Weg dahin war allerdings lang, sagt sie. Es war nicht eine Entscheidung, die dazu geführt hat, es war mehr wie ein Pfad, der sie irgendwann dorthin geführt hat, wo sie jetzt ist.
