Balancing Self Care and Generosity
“I do not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you, but it is a question of a fair balance between your present abundance and their need.” - 2 Corinthians 8:13
It’s easy for us to look at people who are richer than we are or who have more than we have- and tell those people what they ought to be doing to help other people.
It’s much harder for most of us to look at ourselves and the needs of others to determine the things we can and should do to help answer those needs.
Of course we have to care for ourselves and make sure our own needs are met. Loving our neighbor as ourselves assumes a healthy level of self care. Nevertheless, we also need to challenge ourselves to consider the needs of others as seriously as we consider our own.
We must strive to live in the balance of caring for ourselves and being generous with others.
