Ipeleng Mkhari – Juggling an investment group
Manage episode 331169863 series 3360400
Ipeleng Mkhari couldn’t believe her luck when she secured a bank loan of R100,000 to kick start her CCTV business when she was in her twenties. She was female, black and had no entrepreneurial experience whatsoever. She thought she’d hit the jackpot. But there was a twist - she had to pay the money back in just 30 days. Two decades later Ipeleng is the CEO of Motseng Investment Holdings, an investment holding company that owns properties, offers property services, and has a strategic investment arm with stakes in diverse businesses including engineering.
Ipeleng Mkhari’s story takes place against the backdrop of a South Africa awakening from its apartheid legacy. From walking away from a white business who were using her as a front to secure projects, to handling sexual harassment from predatory men, Ipeleng’s story is one of hard work, focus and self-belief – it turns out that’s all she needed. 23 years of uninterrupted growth in business is worth a celebration. Find out how she made it. Listen to her story here.
