My guest host Usha and I talk about the topic of mentorship in the second season's first episode. We discuss our personal experiences with mentors, how to find and get the most out of the relationship with mentors, and strategies to give back to a mentor.
Usha talks about how her formal mentor in her first company helped her to adjust to a new country, team, and group, and gave her valuable advice on networking and utilizing her experience to achieve her career goals. She also learned to apply SWOT analysis to her career goals.
Usha and I discuss how we both have found informal mentors and how building strong relationships with them have helped crystallize our thoughts. We emphasize that finding the right fit for a mentor is essential, and trust and openness are critical factors in building a strong mentor-mentee relationship. Finally, Usha talks about accidental mentors, managers who have taken an interest in challenging and pushing her beyond what she was doing.
