We are once again on our way to the biggest wrestling festival in Europe, the wXw “16 Carat Gold” tournament. From Friday, March 7 to Sunday, March 9, 2025, wXw presents its annual wrestling festival, of course with the eponymous tournament, but also many other events. As an official sponsor of the event, Wrestling-Infos.de was once again provided the opportunity to interview some participants.

This time we were able to welcome a real high-flyer to the interview — Anita Vaughan! She spoke to us about her turbulent past few months, her rise at wXw and in the UK scene, as well as her goals — both inside and outside Germany. Enjoy reading, watching and listening!

Wir befinden uns wieder auf dem Weg zum größten Wrestling-Festival Europas, dem wXw „16 Carat Gold“-Tournament. Vom Freitag, 7. März, bis Sonntag, 9. März 2025, präsentiert die wXw ihr alljährliches Wrestling-Festival, natürlich mit dem namensgebenden Turnier, aber auch vielen weiteren Veranstaltungen. Als offizieller Sponsor des Events haben wir von Wrestling-Infos.de wieder die Möglichkeit erhalten, einige der Teilnehmer*innen zu befragen.

Dieses Mal konnten wir eine echte Senkrechtstarterin zum Interview begrüßen – Anita Vaughan! Sie sprach mit uns über ihre turbulenten vergangenen Monate, ihren Aufstieg bei wXw und in der englischen Szene sowie ihre Ziele – innerhalb und außerhalb Deutschlands. David (wrestling-infos.de): Ein turbulentes Jahr liegt hinter der Frau, die ich nun zum zweiten Mal interviewen darf. Der Umzug von Irland nach London, Kämpfe in ganz Europa und schließlich der Gewinn der Shotgun Championship bei wXw. Die Rede ist natürlich von Anita Vaughan. Ich freue mich, dass es wieder geklappt hat, und es ist toll, Dich hier zu haben.

Anita Vaughan: Danke, David. Es ist toll, wieder hier zu sein. Unser letztes Gespräch hat mir hervorragend gefallen. Es ist verrückt, wie sehr sich die Dinge verändert haben. Es ist also großartig, wieder mit Dir darüber zu sprechen.

David (wrestling-infos.de): In Deinem Leben ist viel passiert, also lass uns mit einer eher persönlichen Frage beginnen. Wie hast Du Dich in London eingelebt?

Anita Vaughan: Es war so schön. Als wir im Juni letzten Jahres miteinander sprachen, bereitete ich mich gerade auf meinen Umzug vor. Zu dieser Zeit war ich sehr nervös. Ich war unsicher und wusste nicht, ob das funktionieren würde. Nicht nur das, ich verließ meine Freunde, meine Familie, meinen Job, einfach alles. Nach sieben oder acht Monaten kann ich aber sagen: Es war die beste Entscheidung meines Lebens. Das Wrestling hat sich absolut gelohnt. Der Ort, an dem ich trainieren kann, die Leute, mit denen ich im Ring bin, die Möglichkeiten, die sich ergeben haben. Es hat mein Wrestling, meine Karriere und mein Leben völlig verändert. Ich bin so glücklich hier und sehr stolz auf mein früheres Ich, dass ich die Chance ergriffen und es probiert habe. Ich bin wirklich dankbar dafür, wie gut sich alles entwickelt hat. Das Leben in London ist gut. Klar, ich vermisse Irland sehr. Ich konnte über Weihnachten zurückkehren, was wunderbar war. Aber ich bin glücklich hier.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast seit Deinem Umzug einige Titel in Großbritannien gewonnen, hauptsächlich an der Seite von Debbie Keitel. Wie zufrieden bist Du mit Deinem Ansehen in der britischen Szene?

Anita Vaughan: Ich bin zufrieden damit, wo ich in der britischen Wrestling-Szene stehe. Ich meine, ich bin erst neu dabei. Mein größtes Ziel, als ich hierhergezogen bin, war einfach, mich zu etablieren. Es gibt hier so viele Frauen, die auf einem so hohen Niveau kämpfen, dass es eine große Ehre ist, bei Titelkämpfen dabei zu sein. Ich bin zufrieden damit, wie ich mich hier integriert habe. Die Fans hier kennen mich jetzt. Die Fans kennen mich, verschiedene Promotions kennen mich, ich bin bei einigen fantastischen Promotions regelmäßig dabei. Ich bin zufrieden damit, wie ich mich eingelebt habe.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du feierst große Erfolge in der Tag Team-Szene, jetzt als Tag Team mit Safire Reed. Ihr nennt Euch selbst „Hyperactive“. Bei wXw hattest Du die Chance, wieder mit Oscar zu taggen. Was macht Tag Team-Wrestling für Dich so besonders?

Anita Vaughan: Ich habe einige meiner Lieblingsmatches an der Seite von Leuten wie Safire Reed, wie Oscar, wie Debbie Keitel gehabt. Es sind die Interaktionen, die man mit seinen Teampartnern hat. Man kann diese zusätzlichen Momente schaffen, und manchmal macht es einfach mehr Spaß. Man kann so viele tolle Geschichten erzählen, wenn ein Team gegen ein anderes Team antritt. Das Taggen mit verschiedenen Leuten bringt auch eine andere Seite von mir zum Vorschein. Ich habe es immer geliebt, ich habe es als Fan gerne gesehen.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du bist auch als Einzelwrestlerin erfolgreich. Du hältst unter anderem die Shotgun Championship bei wXw. Was bevorzugst Du? Einzelwrestling? Oder im Team antreten?

Anita Vaughan: Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich in einem Tag-Team mehr Spaß habe. Aber die Kämpfe, auf die ich am meisten stolz bin, sind wahrscheinlich meine Einzelkämpfe, weil es wirklich nur Dich und den oder die andere*n Wrestler*in gibt, gegen den Du antrittst. Man konzentriert sich wirklich auf sich selbst, auf das, was man kann, und auf das, was man in den Ring bringt. Wenn ich aus großen Einzelkämpfen herauskomme, bin ich wirklich stolz auf die Arbeit, die ich geleistet habe. Mehr Spaß? Tag-Wrestling. Aufregender? Einzelwrestling.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit hattest Du ein Match bei EVE, den „Multiverse Rumble“. Du bist dort als Triple H aufgetreten. EVE organisiert oft solche Matches. Kannst Du uns mehr darüber erzählen? Wie ist die Idee dazu entstanden?

Anita Vaughan: Der Name erklärt ein wenig, was es ist. Es ist völlig verrückt. EVE ist eine Wrestling-Promotion nur für Frauen. Wer sie bisher nicht gesehen hat, sollte sie sich unbedingt ansehen. Sie ist wirklich cool und wirft ein Licht auf einige großartige Frauen-Wrestlerinnen. Der „Multiverse Rumble“ ist das, was er ist, weil jeder als vollkommen zufälliger Charakter auftritt. Er hat nichts mit der Storyline zu tun. Es ist die Gelegenheit für alle Wrestlerinnen, Spaß zu haben und einige verrückte Ideen auszuleben. Ich glaube, die 2025er-Ausgabe war das dritte Jahr, in dem es stattfand. Im Laufe der Jahre hat man jede Art von Charakter gesehen, ehemalige WWE-Wrestler, Fernsehfiguren, Fußballspieler, Sportstars, alles und jeder ist dabei. Dieses Jahr habe ich mich für Triple H entschieden. Meine Freunde scherzen und sagen, dass ich wie Triple H aussehe, hauptsächlich mit meinen Haaren, wenn sie nass sind. Ich wurde bereits vorher „Trips“ genannt. Aber jetzt nennen sie mich erst recht so.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast gesagt, EVE ist eine reine Frauen-Promotion. Aber das stimmt nicht ganz, denn es gab einen männlichen Superstar, der am „Multiverse Rumble“ teilnahm. Will Ospreay, der Dir einen „Pedigree“ verpasste. Das war sicherlich ein besonderer Moment. Wann hast Du erfahren, dass er dabei sein würde? Und wie war es für Dich, mit einem solchen Superstar im Ring zu stehen?

Anita Vaughan: Da hast Du mich erwischt – es gab einen männlichen Wrestler im „Rumble“. Will ist auch ein Produzent für EVE. Er hat in den vergangenen Monaten mit EVE zusammengearbeitet. Er war immer hinter der Bühne und hilft bei den Matches und deren Produktion. Wir kreieren alle unsere eigenen Spots. Wir haben also gemeinsam die Ideen dazu. Jemand hatte diese verrückte Idee: „Was wäre, wenn Will hereinkäme und Dir den ‚Pedigree‘ verpasst?“ Ich hatte nicht damit gerechnet, wie sehr sich die Idee im Internet verbreiten würde und wie viele Leute darüber tweeten würden. Es war verrückt. Ich bin am nächsten Morgen aufgewacht und hatte so viele Benachrichtigungen. Ich wollte mein Handy für eine Weile weglegen. Es war wirklich cool. Es war cool, Teil eines Moments zu sein, der so viral ging.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Als wir das letzte Mal miteinander sprachen, hast Du gesagt, dass Du die European Championship im Auge hast. Jetzt bist Du aber der Shotgun Champion.

Anita Vaughan: Ich erinnere mich, dass die Schlagzeile beim letzten Mal lautete, dass ich die European Championship im Auge habe. Aber Verletzungen passieren leider, das gehört zum Wrestling einfach dazu. Es ist ein Teil des Geschäfts, bedauerlicherweise. Ich bin also nie dazu gekommen, um den Europatitel zu kämpfen. Es war keine ernsthafte Verletzung, ich war höchstens drei Wochen lang außer Gefecht. Aber es bedeutete, dass ich nicht antreten konnte. Und ich dachte, dass dies die größte verpasste Chance meiner Karriere war. Ich konnte es nicht fassen, ich war am Boden zerstört. Aber alles geschieht aus einem bestimmten Grund. Wenn etwas nicht so läuft, wie man es sich wünscht, dann kommt etwas Besseres – wenn man dafür arbeitet. Das ist meine Philosophie. Spulen wir vor zum „Tag Team Festival“. „Femme Fatales“, ich ging als Siegerin hervor, was verrückt war. Ich hatte erst ein Jahr zuvor bei „Femmes Fatales“ mein Debüt gegeben. Dieses Turnier ein Jahr später zu gewinnen, war eine große Ehre. Später forderte ich Levaniel zu einem Match um seine Shotgun Championship heraus und gewann. Ich bekomme immer noch eine Gänsehaut, wenn ich daran denke. Das war der absolute Höhepunkt meiner Karriere. Die Reaktion der Fans an diesem Abend – so etwas habe ich noch nie gehört. Die Halle wurde so laut, als die Leute „You deserve it!“ und „Can you feel it?“ skandierten. Es war wirklich überwältigend. Wenn man sich das Video noch einmal ansieht, sieht man, dass ich fast weinen musste. Hinter der Bühne habe ich auch geweint. Ich bin wirklich dankbar dafür.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Was war Deine erste Reaktion, als Du erfuhrst, dass Du Shotgun Champion werden würdest?

Anita Vaughan: Offen gestanden war ich ungläubig. Es ist solch eine historische Sache. Das „Tag Team Festival“ war einfach ein verrücktes Wochenende. Es gab so viele Matches, so viele Dinge, die passiert sind, dass ich nicht dazu kam, es zu verarbeiten. Es wurde mir erst eine Woche später klar, als ich mich hinsetzte und mir die Geschichte der Shotgun Championship ansah. Natürlich wusste ich, wer den Titel zuvor gehalten hat, aber als ich mich hinsetzte, die Namen sah und dann meinen Namen am Ende der Liste sah, mit der Aufschrift „First Female Shotgun Champion“ – da dachte ich: Das bin ich! Das ist etwas, was ich nie verlieren werde. Es war offen gesagt die größte Ehre meiner Karriere, der größte Schock. Auch während meiner Regentschaft gab es weitere historische Momente. Zum Beispiel, dass ein Match um den Titel gegen Stephanie Maze in Hamburg erstmals zwischen zwei Frauen ausgetragen wurde. Wie auch immer der Rest meiner Regentschaft verlaufen mag, kann ich immer sagen, dass ich Geschichte geschrieben habe, und ich bin sehr stolz darauf.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast den Titel bereits sechsmal verteidigt. Gibt es ein Match, das für Dich besonders hervorsticht?

Anita Vaughan: Ich würde sagen, wahrscheinlich das Match mit Stephanie. Gigantisches Publikum, über 800 Leute in diesem Gebäude. Die Atmosphäre war der Wahnsinn, und ich glaube, wir beide wussten wirklich zu schätzen, wie besonders dieser Moment war und wie sehr er in die Geschichte einging. Hoffentlich wird das für Frauen zur Normalität. Ich liebe Stephanie, sie ist eine unglaubliche Kämpferin.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Normalerweise trittst Du bei wXw gegen männliche Gegner an. Wie anders ist die Matchplanung?

Anita Vaughan: Es ist anders, dann aber auch wieder nicht. Es bringt einfach mehr Herausforderungen mit sich. Wenn ich gegen Frauen kämpfe, kenne ich meine Rolle. Ich bin das Kraftpaket. Ich setze meine Athletik ein. Wenn ich gegen einen Mann in den Ring steige, der zwei Meter groß ist und etwa 115 Kilogramm wiegt, ändert sich mein Plan als Wrestlerin. Aber wir können trotzdem ein paar coole Sachen machen. Natürlich kann man auch mit den Frauen ein paar coole Sachen machen. Aber es zwingt mich dazu, kreativer zu sein, was wirklich cool ist. Mit den Männern zu ringen, macht ohnehin Spaß, weil man dann einfach mit mehr Leuten ringen kann. Oft sind die Männer, die ringen, sehr erfahren. Im Grunde ist es eine lustige und kreative Herausforderung.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du bist fast jedes Wochenende aktiv, in ganz Europa. Wie anstrengend ist das für Dich?

Anita Vaughan: Manchmal können die frühen Flüge anstrengend sein. Es macht keinen Spaß, meinen Wecker auf 4 Uhr morgens zu stellen. Ich reise, um die schönste Sache zu tun, nämlich zu wrestlen und aufzutreten. Sobald ich also am Flughafen bin, in der Luft bin und meinen Kaffee getrunken habe, bin ich glücklich. Ich achte auf meinen Körper, ich lege Wert auf meinen Schlaf und meine Ernährung. Alles ist so eingestellt, dass das Wrestling für mich gedeihen kann. Allerdings muss man ein wenig mehr auf sich selbst aufpassen. Wenn ich ein Wochenende auf Reisen bin, muss ich darauf achten, dass mein Essen und mein Schlaf in Ordnung sind. Es erfordert etwas mehr Vorbereitung, aber ich bin nie traurig über die Müdigkeit oder das frühe Aufstehen. Es ist ein Segen, das alles machen zu können.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Du hast Dich jetzt im Vereinigten Königreich und auch in Europa etabliert. Was ist der nächste Schritt für Dich?

Anita Vaughan: Es gibt viele Dinge, die ich im Wrestling bis jetzt nicht gemacht habe, und die ich unbedingt machen möchte. Ich war noch nie in Japan, und ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich das in meiner Karriere nachholen muss. Das Gleiche gilt für die USA, ich möchte beides machen. Ich hoffe, dass ich mich weiterentwickeln, wachsen und lernen kann. Ich möchte meine Karriere weiter vorantreiben. Außerdem möchte ich auch mehr Tag-Wrestling in Europa betreiben. Das Beste am Tag Team-Wrestling ist es, mit seinen Freunden zu reisen und im Ausland zu wrestlen. Das würde ich auch gerne vermehrt tun.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Letztes Jahr warst Du im „Alternative Four Way“-Match. Dieses Jahr bist Du beim „Carat“-Turnier selbst dabei. Bist Du nervöser als sonst?

Anita Vaughan: Ich würde lügen, wenn ich sagen würde, dass ich nicht nervös bin. Dass ich nach meinem Debüt im letzten Jahr nun eine angekündigte Teilnehmerin des Turniers bin – das hätte ich mir vor einem Jahr nicht vorstellen können.
Es ist das Motivierendste, was ich je erlebt habe. Es bedeutet, dass alles, was ich mit meinem Training, mit meinem Wrestling mache, in die richtige Richtung geht. Ich muss diese Chance nur nutzen, den Schwung mitnehmen und mich wirklich etablieren. Ich will immer besser werden und mehr erreichen. Klar bin ich nervös, aber ich bin bereit. Ich kann es kaum erwarten.

David (wrestling-infos.de): wXw hat mittlerweile alle Teilnehmer*innen bekannt gegeben. Hast Du eine Lieblingsgegnerin oder einen Lieblingsgegner?

Anita Vaughan: Es ist ein unglaubliches Line-up in diesem Jahr, wie in jedem Jahr. Es wäre cool, gegen jeden in diesem Turnier zu wrestlen. Ich weiß nicht, gegen wen ich die besten Chancen hätte.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Während des „Carat“-Wochenendes gibt es immer eine Show namens „Ambition“. Ist das etwas für Dich?

Anita Vaughan: Ich liebe es, die „Ambition“-Shows zu sehen. Dieses wunderschöne technische Wrestling zeigt eine Seite des Wrestlings, die die Leute normalerweise nicht zu sehen bekommen. Und sogar Wrestler*innen, die normalerweise nicht in diesem Stil wrestlen, wrestlen jetzt in diesem Stil. Ich würde nicht nein sagen. Als ich in der „Fight Factory“ trainierte, haben wir einen sehr technischen Stil praktiziert. Ich würde das gerne mehr zeigen, aber ich benötige noch ein wenig mehr Training.
Vielleicht gebe ich mir noch ein Jahr.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Werfen wir einen Blick in die Zukunft. Hyperactive beim „Tag Team Turnier“?

Anita Vaughan: Das würde ich gerne machen. Wir haben schon gegen Young Blood gekämpft. Safire war schon mal bei wXw, sie war letztes Jahr im Rahmen des „Carat“-Wochenendes dort. Also, Hyperactive beim „Tag Team Festival“ in diesem Jahr. Wäre das nicht cool?

David (wrestling-infos.de): Das wäre es! So, nur noch zwei Fragen. Gibt es bestimmte Ziele, die Du bei wXw erreichen möchtest? Außer dem Gewinn von „Carat“, natürlich.

Anita Vaughan: Ich würde hier auch gerne mehr Tag Team-Wrestling machen. Mein anderes Ziel ist es, zu sehen, ob ich die am längsten amtierende Shotgun-Champion aller Zeiten werden kann. Außerdem möchte ich ein Tag Team Champion werden. Ich möchte einfach mehr Kämpfe bestreiten und natürlich auf dem höchsten Niveau antreten, das ich kann. Ich möchte ein fester Bestandteil der wXw bleiben und mich weiter etablieren.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Gibt es etwas, das Du den deutschen Fans mit auf den Weg geben möchtest?

Anita Vaughan: Vielen Dank an alle deutschen Fans. Die Jungs und Mädels in der Umkleidekabine in Großbritannien sagen mir immer, dass es so aussieht, als ob ich in Deutschland so viel Spaß hätte. Ich denke, die besten Zuschauer*innen sind in Deutschland, und die Leute wissen das nicht genug zu schätzen. Die Leute reden immer über das britische und das US-Publikum. Ich würde die deutschen Fans ganz oben einsortieren: Es gibt niemanden wie sie! Wenn ich in Deutschland bin, habe ich oft das Gefühl, bei einem Fußballspiel zu sein. Und ich danke Euch für Eure Unterstützung. Ich bin nur ein Mädchen aus Irland, das herübergekommen ist, ihren Weg in die wXw-Umkleide gefunden hat und ein Teil davon geworden ist. Die Fans haben es geschafft, dass ich mich wie zu Hause fühle. Ich habe heute auch ein neues T-Shirt herausgebracht, das „Kannst Du es fühlen?“ heißt. Es ist auf Deutsch für meine deutschen Fans. Von dort kommt immer die beste Unterstützung.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Anita, vielen Dank noch einmal für Deine Zeit. Und ich denke, wir freuen uns alle darauf, Dich in Oberhausen zu sehen!

David (wrestling-infos.de): A turbulent year lies behind the woman who we will now have the pleasure of interviewing for a second time. The move from Ireland to London, matches all over Europe and finally winning the Shotgun championship in wXw. We are of course talking about Anita Vaughan. I’m delighted that it worked out again, and it’s great to have you here.

Anita Vaughan: Thank you, David. It is great to be here again. I loved our chat the last time. It is crazy how much things have changed. So it is great to get on and talk about it again.

David (wrestling-infos.de): A lot happened in your life, so let’s start with a rather personal question. How have you settled in London?

Anita Vaughan: It has been so good. When we spoke in June of last year, I think I was just preparing to move. At that time, I was so nervous. I was uncertain. I did not know if this is going to work. Not only that, but I was leaving my friends, my family, my job, everything. Seven or eight months in, I can just say: It was the best decision of my life. The wrestling has absolutely paid off. Where I get to train, the people I get to wrestle, the opportunities that have come up. It has entirely changed my wrestling, my career, and my life. I am so happy here and very proud of my past self for taking the chance and giving it a go. I am truly grateful for how well everything is gone. London life is good. I do Miss Ireland a lot. I got to go back over Christmas, which was nice. But I am happy here. Everything is pretty good.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You won a few titles in the UK since you moved, primarily alongside Debbie Keitel. How satisfied are you with your standing in the British scene?

Anita Vaughan: I am pleased with where I am at in the British wrestling scene. I mean, I am only new to it. My biggest goal when I moved over was just to establish myself. There are so many women here who perform at such a high level that to be in and around title matches is a big honour as well. I am happy with how I have integrated in. The fans here know me now. The fans know me, different promotions know me, I have become a regular at a few fantastic promotions. I am happy with how I have settled in.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You are celebrating great success in the Tag Team scene, now tagging alongside Safire Reed. You call yourself “Hyperactive”. In wXw, you had the chance to tag with Oscar again. What makes Tag Team wrestling so special to you?

Anita Vaughan: I have had some of my favourite matches tagging alongside people like Safire Reed, like Oscar, like Debbie Keitel. It is the interactions you have with your team partners. You get to create these extra moments, and occasionally, it is just more fun. You can tell so many great stories when it is a team against another team. Tagging with different people brings out a different side of me as well. I have always loved it, I liked watching it as a fan. Getting to do it in so many ways — it is great fun.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You are also successful as a singles wrestler. You are the Shotgun champion in wXw, for example. What do you prefer? Singles wrestling or competing in the team?

Anita Vaughan: Always with the tough questions. I feel like I have more fun in a tag team. But the matches that I am most proud of are probably my singles matches because it really is just you and the other wrestler you are competing against. It really puts the focus on you, what you can do, and what you bring to the ring. When I come out of big singles matches, I feel really proud of the work I have done. More fun? Tag wrestling. More exciting? Singles wrestling.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Not that long ago, you had a match at EVE, the “Multiverse Rumble”. You competed there dressed as Triple H. EVE often organises this type of match. Can you tell us more about it? How did the idea grow?

Anita Vaughan: The name explains a bit what it is. It is completely crazy. EVE is an all women’s wrestling promotion. If anyone has not seen it, you should check it out. It is really cool and does put a spotlight on some great women’s wrestlers. The “Multiverse Rumble” is what it is because everyone comes out as completely random characters. It is not linked to the storyline. It is the opportunity for all the wrestlers to have fun and to go crazy with some ideas. I believe The 2025 one was the third year it has run. You have seen every kind of character throughout the years, like former WWE wrestlers, TV characters, football players, sports stars, everything and anyone is in it. This year, I chose to be Triple H. My friends would joke to me and say that, especially with my hair, whenever it gets wet, that I look like Triple H. People already call me “Trips”. But now they absolutely definitely do.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You said EVE is an all-women promotion. But that is not entirely true because there was one male superstar who entered the “Multiverse Rumble”. Will Ospreay, who gave you a pedigree. It was certainly a special moment. When did you find out that he was going to be there? And what was it like for you to be in the ring with such a superstar?

Anita Vaughan: You got me there. There was a male wrestler in the “Rumble”. There was Will Ospreay. Will is also a producer for EVE. He has been working with EVE for the last couple of months. He has always been backstage and helps with matches and producing them. Obviously, we all create our own spots. So we come up with the ideas together. Someone said this crazy idea: “What if Will came in, and it gave you the pedigree?” I did not expect how viral it would go online or how many people would tweet about it. It was crazy. I woke up the next morning and got so many notifications. I wanted to put my phone away for a bit. It was really cool. It was cool to be part of a moment that went so viral.

David (wrestling-infos.de): The last time we spoke to each other, you said that you had your eyes on the European Championship. Now you are the Shotgun champion.

Anita Vaughan: I remember the headline last time was my eyes are on the European title. But injuries unfortunately happen, that is just part of wrestling. It is simply a part of the business, unfortunately. So I never actually got to compete for the European title. It was no earnest injury, it only kept me out for three weeks at most. But it meant I could not compete. And I thought that this was the biggest missed opportunity of my career. I could not believe it. I was devastated. However, everything happens for a reason. When something does not go your way, it is because something better is coming — if you work for it. That is my philosophy. Fast-forward to “Tag Team Festival”. “Femme Fatales”, I came out as the winner, which was crazy. I had only debuted one year previously in “Femmes Fatales”. To win that tournament one year later was such an honour. Later on, I challenged Levaniel for his Shotgun championship and won. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. It was absolutely the highlight of my career. The fans‘ reaction on the night — I have never heard anything like it. The place went so loud when people were chanting “You deserve it!” and “Can you feel it?” It was really overwhelming. If you go back and watch it, I am nearly crying. Backstage, I was crying. I am truly grateful for it.

David (wrestling-infos.de): What was your initial reaction when you found out you were going to be Shotgun champion?

Anita Vaughan: It was disbelief, honestly. It is such a historic thing. “Tag Team Festival” was just a crazy weekend. So many matches, so many things are happening, I did not get to process it. It did not even hit me until a week later when I sat down and was looking at the history of the Shotgun championship. Obviously, I knew who had held it before, but to really sit down, see those names and then to see my name at the end of the list that says “first female shotgun champion” — I’m like, that’s me! That is something I will always have done. It is honestly been the biggest honour of my career, the biggest shock. There are numerous historic moments along the way. For example, to have the first two women compete for the shotgun title against Stephanie Maze in Hamburg. However the rest of my Shotgun Championship reign may go on, I can always say I made history, and I am so proud.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You already defended the title six times. Is there a match that stands out for you?

Anita Vaughan: I would say probably the match with Stephanie. Gigantic crowd, 800 plus people in this building. The atmosphere was insane, and I think the two of us really appreciated how special that moment was and how much of a historic moment it was. I think we both appreciated it. We are both now a part of history for that reason. Hopefully, that just becomes a normal thing for women. I love Stephanie, she is an unbelievable competitor.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Usually in wXw, you compete against male opponents. How different is the match planning?

Anita Vaughan: It is different, then it is not at the same time. It just opens up more challenges in how you can tell a story. If I am wrestling women, I know my role. I am the powerhouse. I might use some athleticism. When you put me in the ring against a man who is like 6 foot five and like 250 lbs or something crazy like it, it changes my game plan as a wrestler. But we can do some cool stuff. Obviously, you can do some cool stuff with the women too. But it forces me to be more creative, which is really cool. Getting to wrestle the men is fun anyway because it just means you get to wrestle more people. Often, the men that are wrestling are super experienced. It is a fun and creative challenge, basically.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You are active almost every weekend, all over Europe. How exhausting is that for you?

Anita Vaughan: Sometimes the early flights can be exhausting. Setting my alarm for 4:00 AM is no fun. I am travelling to get to do the most fun thing in the world, which is to wrestle and perform. So as soon as I am in the airport, in the air and have my coffee, I am happy. I am minding my body, I prioritise my sleep and my diet. Everything is set so that wrestling can thrive for me. So I am in a good place. It does require you to take care of yourself a bit more. If I have a weekend of travel, I need to make sure my food and sleep are okay. It requires a bit more preparation, but I never feel sad about the tiredness or about getting up early. It is a blessing to get to do all that.

David (wrestling-infos.de): You have now established yourself in the United Kingdom, in Europe as well. What is the next step for you?

Anita Vaughan: There are many things I still have not done in wrestling, and I really do want to do them. I have never been to Japan, which is something that I feel like I need to do during my career. The same for the USA, I want to do both. I hope to keep expanding, keep growing, keep learning. I aim to push my career further. Furthermore, I also wish to do more tag wrestling in Europe. The best part of Tag Team wrestling is to travel with your friends and wrestle abroad. That is what I would like to do as well.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Last year, you were in the “Alternative four way”-Match. This year, you are in the “Carat” tournament itself. Are you more nervous than usual?

Anita Vaughan: I would be lying if I said I was not nervous, absolutely. Being an announced participant in the tournament after debuting last year — I could never have imagined this one year ago. It is the most motivating thing I have ever felt. It means that everything I am doing with my training, with my wrestling, is going in the right direction. I just need to take this opportunity, capitalise on the momentum and really establish myself. I want to keep getting better and achieve more for myself. So, I am nervous, but I am ready. I cannot wait.

David (wrestling-infos.de): wXw announced all participants by now. Do you have a favourite opponent?

Anita Vaughan: It is an incredible line-up this year, as it is every year. It would be cool to wrestle anyone in that tournament. I do not know who I would have the best chances against.

David (wrestling-infos.de): During the “Carat” weekend, there is always a show called “Ambition”. Is that something for you?

Anita Vaughan: I love watching the “Ambition”-shows. This beautiful technical wrestling shows a side of wrestling that other people don’t usually get to see. And even wrestlers who do not typically wrestle that style are now wrestling this style. I would not say no. When I trained in the “Fight Factory”, we did a highly technical style. I would love to get to show that a bit more, but I need a bit more training. Maybe give me another year.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Let us look into the future. Hyperactive and “Tag Team tournament”, perhaps?

Anita Vaughan: I would love that. We have already faced Young Blood. Safire has done wXw before, she was there last year as part of the “Carat”-weekend. So, Hyperactive in the “Tag Team Festival” this year. Would that not be cool?

David (wrestling-infos.de): It would! So, only two questions left. Are there any specific goals you would like to achieve within wXw? Besides winning “Carat”.

Anita Vaughan: I would like to do more Tag Team wrestling here as well. My other goal is to see if I can be the longest reigning shotgun champion of all time. Moreover, become a tag team champion. I just want to have more matches and compete at the highest level I can, of course. I would like to remain a strong part of wXw and keep establishing myself.

David (wrestling-infos.de): Is there anything you would like to pass on to the German fans?

Anita Vaughan: Thank you to all the German fans. The guys in the locker room in the UK always tell me that it looks like I have so much fun in Germany. I think the best crowds are in Germany, and people don’t appreciate this enough. People will talk about UK crowds and US crowds. I’m going to put German fans up there and say: There is nobody like them! Often, I feel like I am at a football match when I am in Germany. And thank you for your support. I am just a girl from Ireland who has come over, found her way into the wXw locker room and became a part of it. The fans have absolutely made me feel at home. I have also released a new T-shirt today, which is “Kannst Du es fühlen?” It is in German, for my German fans. The best support always comes from there.
