Passage: Romans 8:15 Sermon Notes: 1. Experiential a. By the Spirit, He makes the objective truth of your position more real to you b. The Spirit of God pulls us deeper and deeper into the reality of the status of our position i. Prayer makes the objective truth into experiential reality ii. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing ~ C.S. Lewis Prayer Point: Pray to the Father in a Fresh way! Seek His reality and His presence, by meditation on your position and who He says He is to you. 2. Communal a. Jesus gave us a corporate model of prayer i. When you pray say, “Our Father!” ii. Because we can never see more of God on our own. iii. God is infinite and there’s so much of God to be revealed. If I want more of God, I need more of You. Prayer Point: Maybe it’s time to pray to join a small group. And if you’re already in a small group, maybe it’s time to start praying to build deeper relationships rather than the superficial one.
