Inequities in homeownership rates persist despite the many advantages it offers, including stability, cherished traditions and long-term financial benefits.
According to data from the National Association of Realtors, homeownership in the United States rose to 65.5% in 2021, but a significant gap remains between Black and white Americans. While 72.7% of white Americans were homeowners in 2021, only 44% of Black Americans owned their homes. This 29% disparity marks the largest Black-white homeownership rate gap observed in the past decade.
