Week one of the 2024 preseason for the Atlanta Falcons is in the books, and things went accordingly to plan, almost. During the Falcons preseason game vs the Miami Dolphins, Falcons third round draft pick Bralen Trice went down with a torn ACL. Much was said about the Falcons declining to draft a pass rusher in the first round and instead waiting until rounds two through four to draft defensive linemen. Trice was drafted in the third round, and would be the only EDGE rusher that the Falcons would take. Now, with Trice injured and out for the season, fans will now raise more questions as to why the Falcons drafted quarterback Michael Penix in the first round and not an EDGE rusher such as Alabama’s Dallas Turner or UCLA’s Laiatu Latu. Dallas Turner turned in a sack as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, and Laiatu Latu had a solo tackle for his team, the Indianapolis Colts in preseason game one, but more importantly both players finished healthy. For the record, Michael Penix Jr, whiom the Falcons did take in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft played okay, but if everything goes as planned, Penix Jr will not see the field at all this season. Will the Falcons regret their first round draft pick? Maybe time will tell. All we do know is that injuries cannot be predicted, and many more will probably follow. Randy McMichael and Abe Gordon break down preseason week one, and preview week two for the 2024 Atlanta Falcons.
