This week’s episode is with my dear friend and law school classmate, William Igbokwe. William is both an attorney and a performer in Portland, Oregon. He views his career in law as just a piece of the larger part of his life’s work as an advocate. In this interview, we discuss a wide range of issues (hence the lengthy title!) primarily related to the law and social justice and how these macro issues affect each of us on the micro-level.

This is my second interview with William and is really a furthering of the conversation we had in Episode 21. Definitely check out that episode first if you haven’t already!

IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT

Why we can’t talk about wellness without talking about social justice and how both are intertwined within each other. This is a time for people in the wellness industry to become more active in how they can more holistically support the collective. How COVID-19 sparked an intense community wellness responsibility, but the killings of unarmed Black men and women didn’t invoke the same amount of pressure to protect each other’s safety. Manueving wellness as a Black man with all that’s happening in society and how William has had to look at wellness in a different way. How we can be both perpetrators of injustice and victims of trauma, and why it’s important to recognize that about ourselves (and others) and reconcile it.
