Welcome back to Have Good Ripple Effect! I’m Lisa Even, and today we’re tackling a topic I think everyone can relate to: Imposter Syndrome. You know that little voice that says, “You’re not good enough,” or “Who do you think you are?” Whether it’s in your career, personal life, or even friendships, those sneaky feelings can pop up when you least expect them. In this episode, I share a hilarious (and muddy!) story about my minivan trying to “act” like a Jeep and how it reminded me of moments where I’ve felt like an imposter. But more importantly, I’ll walk you through the two-step strategy I use to combat imposter syndrome: Grounding Thoughts and Get-Through Phrases. Join me as we explore: What imposter syndrome is and how it shows up in everyday life The power of grounding thoughts to calm self-doubt Why having a pre-planned “get-through phrase” can help you handle tough moments Personal examples of how these tools have helped me in business, friendships, and family life How you can start practicing these strategies today to overcome imposter syndrome and step into confidence P.S. Welcome back to Have Good Ripple Effect! I’m Lisa Even, and today, we’re diving into a phrase you’ve probably heard a thousand times: “Stay in your lane.” But here’s my question: Could staying in your lane actually be dangerous? In this episode, I’ll share a recent experience from a family trip to the Omaha Zoo that sparked a deep conversation on why sometimes we need to venture outside our lanes, especially at work and in our daily lives. I’ll explore why sticking solely to your responsibilities can limit creativity, reduce collaboration, and even prevent empathy. In fact, encouraging people to “stay in their lane” might be stifling growth and innovation. I’ll also share a personal story from my early days in leadership and how a simple broken printer revealed the importance of taking ownership beyond one’s job description. Join me as we explore: Why staying in your lane can hinder teamwork and critical thinking How exploring other “lanes” encourages empathy, collaboration, and efficiency The importance of fostering a culture where people feel empowered to make a difference beyond their roles Practical ways to reframe “stay in your lane” in a way that invites curiosity and innovation If you’re ready to break free from the limits of staying in your lane and open up a whole new world of impact, this episode is for you! Whether you’re leading a team, tackling a new project, or simply trying to inspire others, I believe confidence is the key to showing up as the leader you’re meant to be. Do you have a book idea, but just don’t know where to start? Hey there! Welcome back to the Have Good Ripple Effect podcast. Today, I want to let you in my my story and journey to writing my very own book. Now, calling myself an author feels a bit odd even now but I learned a few tips and tricks along the way to help get you started. :) Let's be honest; the thought of writing a book can be daunting. I mean, who am I to write a book, right? We all have to face that limiting belief but that's just it—each of us has something valuable to share. For me, it was about turning my scattered thoughts on finding joy into something solid that I could hold in my hands. It started with conversations, those little "aha!" moments where people would ask, "Lisa, how do you do it?" That's when I knew I had something worth writing down. With a whole lot of sticky notes and a fantastic book coach who was part therapist, part cheerleader, I started organizing my ideas. Imagine my desk—post-its everywhere, each a tiny insight into creating joy that would soon be chapters. And here’s a little secret: I spoke most of my book before I wrote it down. Yep, I used a transcription app to capture my spoken words, turning them into the chapters of my book. (More about that tip in the episode!) If you're sitting on a book idea, thinking it's too big a mountain to climb, I'm here to tell you: just start. It's about getting those ideas out, however messy and unpolished they may be. Each word you jot down or speak into your phone brings you closer to sharing your story with the world. So, if you've ever thought, "Maybe I could write a book," why not start today? Grab that stack of post-its, or open a new note on your phone, and just begin. It’s your thoughts, your story, your book. And trust me, it’s worth sharing. Hit play now! Hey there! Today, we're diving into the concept of "Living in the Lab." Picture me, if you will, decked out in lab goggles and a coat, ready to mix a potion of life experiments. This past year, I've given myself full permission to treat life as a series of experiments. Some fizzled, some exploded, but each one taught me something invaluable. Giving yourself permission to experiment—and yes, to fail—is liberating. It’s about stepping into the lab, trying new things, and accepting that not everything will go according to plan. And that’s perfectly okay. In fact, it’s necessary for growth. This mindset shift is about seeing life not as a series of destinations but as a path of discovery, where the journey itself is the reward. Remember the thrill of doing something for the first time? That heart-racing, slightly nerve-wracking sensation is what keeps us alive, curious, and ever-growing. Whether it's writing a book, trying a new fitness class, or launching a podcast, the "first-time feeling" is a reminder that we're pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territories. Now, what if you could harness that energy for your dreams? Start by making a list of what you might need to realize those dreams. It doesn't have to be perfect. This list is your starting point, your map to experimentation. It's about identifying the tools, knowledge, and support you need to take the first step and then the next. Living in the lab means embracing life as an experiment, where every failure is a lesson, and every success is a stepping stone. It's about adopting a mindset of curiosity and resilience, where the goal isn't to avoid failure but to learn and grow from it. So, what experiment will you start today? Today, we’re tackling something a tad bit fancy sounding but oh-so-crucial: Life Design. Now, if you're like me, you might think, "Sounds grand, but what in the world does it actually mean?" Simply put, it's about not letting life just happen to you. Instead, it’s about grabbing the steering wheel with both hands and driving towards joy and fulfillment. Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, doesn’t it? Just when you think you’ve got your ducks in a row, life says… I have something else in mind! Haha It’s these moments that truly test our mettle, pushing us to either retreat or lean in. I choose to lean in. Moving into the proverbial firehouse of life’s challenges taught me more than I could’ve ever anticipated. It's about facing life head-on, even when it’s tempting to run the other way. So, how do we design a life we love amidst the chaos? It starts with intention. Are you ready for life’s fastball, and more importantly, its curveballs? Life isn’t just about reacting; it’s about proactively creating moments, memories, and pathways that lead to a joy-filled existence. This is where the magic of life design comes into play. It’s not about a grand overhaul overnight but rather, the small, deliberate choices we make every day. Remember moving into the firehouse? That was me, literally living amidst chaos and learning the most profound lessons on resilience, joy, and the power of a positive outlook. These moments, as overwhelming as they were, underscored the importance of designing a life that not only withstands storms but also thrives because of them. Keys to a life you love? Start simple. Reflect on what truly matters to you. Is it family? Adventure? Growth? Then, take small steps each day that align with these values. Maybe it’s dedicating 15 minutes to a hobby you’ve neglected or choosing to spend quality time with loved ones over overtime at work. Each choice is a brushstroke in the masterpiece that is your life. Hey there, welcome back to our little corner of the internet that's making a good ripple effect! Today, we’re spilling the beans on a topic that, honestly, gets way too much bad press: Networking. Yep, you heard right. Networking. That thing we love to hate but can't seem to escape. But here’s a little secret: It doesn’t have to be the awkward, sweaty-palmed experience we’ve all come to dread. Remember those cringe-worthy networking events? Standing alone with a drink, trying to muster up the courage to talk about, well, anything that isn’t the weather? Been there, done that. But what if I told you that networking could actually be your superpower? Yep, I said it. Your superpower. Back when I started my own gig, I realized something pretty game-changing: Networking is all about connection, real, genuine connection. Not just swapping business cards or adding a new name to your LinkedIn network, but actually connecting. It’s about finding your tribe, one conversation at a time. And it starts with asking the right questions. Not the “How are you?” kind, but the “Where are you from?” kind that opens doors to real stories. Jerry Seinfeld once shared a nugget of wisdom about asking specific questions to really get to know someone. So, taking a leaf out of his book, I started experimenting. And guess what? It works like a charm. Suddenly, those awkward silences filled up with laughter, stories, and yes, connections. So, the next time you find yourself at one of those events, skip the small talk. Dive deep. Ask about the book they’re reading, the place they grew up, or even their pet peeves and remember what I share on this episode! Before you know it, you’ll be networking like a pro, making genuine connections, and actually enjoying the process. Remember, it’s not about collecting contacts; it’s about building connections. Let's flip the script on networking, making it less about what you can get and more about what you can share. Together, we can turn networking from a dreaded chore into an opportunity for growth, learning, and, most importantly, connection. Because at the end of the day, it’s the connections we make that truly shape our world! Hit play now!
