In the 1980s, there were only 63 Black films by, for, or about Black Americans. But in the 1990s, that number quadrupled, with 220 Black films making their way to cinema screens nationwide. What sparked this “Black New Wave?” Who blazed this path for contemporaries like Ava DuVernay, Kasi Lemmons and Jordan Peele? And how did these films transform American culture as a whole? Presenting The Class of 1989, a new limited-run series from pop culture critics Len Webb and Vincent Williams, hosts ...

There's real news about the fate/future of Paramount+/10Paramount that concerns even us!
This week it's Rob(erto), Robbo, and Molk lining up to discuss and dissect the week in Australian TV (and attached bits).
As Paramount's US boss Bob Bakish looks to be preparing Paramount Global for sale, what will this mean for 10Paramount down under? Is their recent shelving of an array of Australian original series a sign of what is to come, or simply bad timing as they seek to eek out additional revenue from licensing the content elsewhere? The team aren't leaning into a beat up--this is a live situation that will have real impact on everyone who works at Channel 10.
The media buyers have said it'll be at least 12 months before they pay any heed to the new VOZ ratings, and we discuss why that might be and the current PR Jedi playbook when it comes to promoting your shows and making sure no matter the metric, everyone's a winner! (NOTE: reach is not a thing; national audience is all we really have to go by now and we should be leaning into that...but state-by-state numbers for shows would be nice.)
There's THE GRAMMYS to discuss as they showed everyone how to do it (and saw a bump in their ratings). Trevor Noah smashed it and kept it light and fun for the entire (nearly) four-hour broadcast. Taylor Swift announcing her new album didn't hurt either.
Then finally, as the casting for the new series of DANCING WITH THE STARS starts to roll out, does it highlight that the audience are less concerned with the format and more concerned with the controversy surrounding the star?
The TV BLACKBOX podcast has returned, and we are full of surprises (or something that starts with 's', anyway).
