Nathan Siler: Recover Yourself with MartinJon
Manage episode 311420959 series 3120290
In this episode, I am talking Nathan Siler performer and composer who lives and works in NYC. In addition to being the chief architect of the NYC post-punk-prog band Portraiture, he is a classical singer who frequently sings at Carnegie Hall with the Bard Festival Chorale and at Lincoln Center with NY Concert Chorale. Recently he was imprisoned (on stage) in the World Premiere of David Lang’s new Opera “The Prisoner of the State” at Lincoln Center. He also keeps a packed schedule of composition and orchestration projects. Siler's notable works include Original score to the devised theater piece Rise/Fall by Sheila B., Featured Orchestration for BAM (Jules Verne: From the Earth to the Moon); Original podcast theme song (Reverence Road); Film scores (The Widowers; We Are Mary); Full orchestral suite for Grammy© award-winning children's rock band Sugar-Free Allstars (performed by Winston-Salem Philharmonic and Oklahoma City Philharmonic). He produces albums across multiple genres, most recently: “Blaze: Songs from Pham” by Margaret Tran and the new debut EP by singer-songwriter Jason Drew.
Nathan has a lot to share in this episode and we talk a lot about how creativity has been a part of our recovery. Nathan is also a new parent and we got the opportunity to talk about how that changed him, and how his understanding of distance has been challenged since the birth of his child.

With episodes like this one, I am extremely grateful. Nathan and I connected on so many things that relate to our individual recoveries, I love his approach and how he expresses his recovery. He and I both connect to The Artists Way and have some of the same practices that guide us forward in our creativity and in being our own authentic selves. Broadening these conversations is part of my mission. I cannot express how grateful I am to have so many wonderful people trust me to interview them, it is my hope, that I also am able to contribute to their lives and show you how you might better see your growth.
