These are the words of wisdom from Solomon. If anyone tries to trap a righteous person, God will not allow that to happen. Instead, he himself will fall into that trap. This is the experience of several of us. This is the experience of several people in the Bible too. David who faced the enmity of several people and who fought several battles felt the same way too.
Psalm 7:15, 16 – David said, “He has dug a pit and hallowed it out, and has fallen into the hole which he has made. His mischief will return upon his own head, and his violence will descend upon his own pate.”
Two incidents from the Bible are discussed. It is the nature of sinners to tempt, seduce and entrap the righteous and naïve. The wicked are content once they see others go through the sorrow and guilt they bear themselves. The wicked people should know that the trap they lay for other people will be their destiny. If someone digs a pit for a good person, it will turn out to be his own grave. To the upright man who loves the Lord, denies the flesh and obeys God’s Law, God promises blessing and eternal inheritance.
