Cutting Through Fabric: Navigating Autistic Sensory Issues in Dance
Manage episode 448091337 series 3579040
Join us as we discuss how even the most well-meaning inclusive dance program can often overlook the daily challenges faced by autistic dancers. This week we explore fabric and clothing sensitivity issues, and how something as simple as wearing sleeves can be a sensory overload nightmare for dancers on the Spectrum. We go down a few bunny trails while we discuss how physically painful it can be dealing with a sensory overload. Something most dance teachers don't understand or overlook.
We also discuss how Autistic Wings Dance Company's innovative dance studio version of an Individual Education Program helps both dancers and dance teachers navigate fabric and clothing sensory issues.
We also do a little bit of housekeeping. Leta's Tap Styles Podcast Schedule is changing. Tuesdays will be Tap Tuesdays, discussing tap dance and the tap dance world. Fridays will be all about our friends in both the dance world and the autism community.
Special Guests this month include John Fela and Samantha Foote. Don't miss these amazing episodes coming up this November.
We were guests on the Happy Sensory Corner.
