The Power of Visuals
Manage episode 429670212 series 3521142
Today I'm joined by Bro. Bryan Critcher and we're talking about using visuals to help kids relate to concepts.
A picture is worth a thousand words. That’s what my dad used to tell me all the time. My dad taught me a lot about construction and he’s a great teacher. He would explain how to do something, but then when he “showed” me how it became extremely clear.
This is also true with unfamiliar experiences, we can hear about or read about extreme circumstances and even have the appropriate reaction-a bad car accident for example. But when you drive up on one or worse, experience one, it gives you a whole new perspective.
We live here in the Pacific Northwest and we can tell people about how green it is here and how beautiful it is, but it’s hard for someone to grasp it until they see it person or at least see a picture of it.
Some of the things we try to cover:
- Abstract concepts lose attention
- Set the stage (stage props)
- Using handheld props
- Various types of visuals
