Charlie Engle - runner, writer, recovering addict and keynote speaker.

I am pleased to call Charlie a friend.

Charlie and I met in Vermont last October at the 29029 Everesting event and we've been in touch ever since. And I'm grateful for that!

He’s ran across the Sahara Desert, he started a non-profit organization with Matt Damon and has written the best selling book Running Man.

You’ll learn so much about Charlie and his story in this conversation. There’s not much we don’t cover.

We talk about

  • His interactions with Michael Jordan during his days at the University of North Carolina
  • His early running career
  • His journey into addiction and how running saved him from a certain death sentence attached to that addiction
  • Running across the Sahara and the honest story about the documentary that came about as a part of this expedition
  • His experience at 29029 and the life-changing conversation he had with complete strangers while hiking 29029 feet at Stratton Vermont
  • His time in Federal Prison and my experience with prisoners and breaking misconceptions of what prison is like due to my Dad being a correctional officer in Australia for over 20 years
  • And most importantly - his life dedicated to making a difference now specifically with the 5.8 global expedition adventures, which due to current circumstances are on hold.

You can learn more about Charlie on his website charlieengle.com - as mentioned he has links to all of his social media channels, information about his 5.8 global adventure series and much more. His blog is a must read, he has some outstanding stories about his 5.8 trip through Africa, which we didn’t cover in this conversation, in particular a post titled, One Bullet, One Goat. It’s a must read.

Thanks to the team at 29029 for bringing Charlie and I together, we’ve become great mates since and I look forward to many more conversations and adventures in the future.

If you enjoyed the show my ask it that you share it with one friend. I’d love grow the show and word of mouth is the best way for that to happen. Stay tuned to InnerVoice for more inspiring stories from the world of endurance sports.
