The Flagship: Reacting to Texas' dominant win over Rice
Manage episode 302636048 series 1540602
The Longhorns rebounded in a big way Saturday night in Austin when Texas dominated Rice 58-0. After a humbling Week 2 loss to Arkansas, the Longhorns made a statement at all three phases of the game in the final non-conference regular-season matchup of Year 1 of the Steve Sarkisian era.
On this week's episode of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes react to the Longhorns' performance against the Owls starting with the production of the Texas offense. Junior quarterback Casey Thompson logged his first career start at Texas and made his first college start one to remember as Thompson led the Texas offense on seven of eight scoring drives, all of which ended with touchdowns, before he hung it up midway through the third quarter.
The Flagship also weighs in on the electric performance from the Texas running back room against the Rice defense, which has been a recent strength for the Owls under Mike Bloomgren, and rushed for a total 427 yards and six touchdowns in the ball game. Four different RBs found the end zone against Rice, led by sophomore RB Bijan Robinson with 127 yards and three touchdowns, while Roschon Johnson, Keilan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks all added a touchdown of their own.
The Flagship then shifts focus to the defensive side of the ball in the shutout of Rice, which marked the first shutout win for Texas since 2017. The Longhorns enforced their will early and often against the Owls, and held the Rice offense to less than 300 total yards and no points.
Texas fans won't want to miss this loaded game reaction edition of The Flagship Podcast.
