Backcountry Adventures
Up first, join me and Gabaccia as we talk about the backpacking trips we took at the beginning of September. Barry and I backpacked 54+ miles through the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne in Yosemite National Park and Gabaccia completed the Collegiate West from Twin Lakes to Monarch Pass (also part of the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail) for a whopping 76 miles!
We'll be talking about how we picked our trails, what we did to prepare, what food we ate, what gear we brought, and more. 💩
Food is one of the most important parts of a backpacking adventure. I keep my Type 2 Diabetes at bay via a primarily plant-based nutrition plan and hiking. On-trail nutrition is a big concern for anyone adventuring with Type 2 Diabetes, so we are excited to introduce you to Kim from Outdoor Herbivore. All of the meals are vegetarian or vegan and Kim is going to be sharing more about how the food is made (it's all dehydrated food that you re-hydrate on the trail) and why her products are a good choice for folks who are managing diabetes on the trail.
We're also stoked to have Aaron Owens Mayhew from Backcountry Foodie joining us to share a bit about her adventures as a Registered Dietician who makes ultralight backpacking meals. Gabaccia used some of the Backcountry Foodie recipes on the trail during her last adventure and I'm definitely interested in hearing about how I can cut down on expenses and create my own ultralight backpacking food, so this is going to be AMAZING!
