How to Get That One Employee To Show Up!

I’ve been hearing a lot lately from leaders frustrated with employees who are constantly calling in sick or missing key days. 🤒 Yes, life happens, and sometimes illness does too.
But if it’s a pattern—if they’re not showing up when you need them most—maybe there’s a bigger issue. 🚩
First, ask yourself: Are they bought into the company’s mission?
Are they truly aligned with the deeper "why" behind your organization?
If the answer is yes, great! Keep fostering that connection. If not, well…not everyone will be. And sometimes, you just need a person in that seat to get the job done. But that's not sustainable.
Here’s what you can do:
Get to know them, ask questions, and find out if they’re doing work in their area of genius—the things that energize them. 🌟
When people aren’t working in their zone of genius, they’re disengaged. Even if they’re physically there, they’re not contributing at the level you need.
You may not always be able to place them in their area of genius full-time, but giving them opportunities to do work that lights them up—even in small doses—brings hope. And hope is what drives people to keep showing up and giving their best. 🙌
So, take the time. Find their genius. Because when you do, you’ll see a change.
