He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps in 2021 after 20 years of service.

Holding an undergraduate degree in economics from the Institute of Business Administration (Karachi, Pakistan), Syed has a keen interest in topics such as inflation hedge, microfinance, and international trade. He also holds a Master of Science in Finance from Babson College.
