Illiteracy is a nationwide problem that affects children and adults, and it’s something that’s not going to disappear any time soon. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has been working to help reduce those numbers locally by bringing literacy to residents at the Juvenile Detention Center and the Detention Center. A new mental health unit will be opening at the Charleston County jail.
