“Low-income Californians and communities of color are essentially going to be disproportionately impacted. This is because they really rely on these programs, be it in food, housing, or education. More than 200 programs will be impacted in one way or another,” Travis Gillmore says.

Siyamak sits down with Mr. Gillmore, a California reporter for The Epoch Times. He tells us the details of California’s budget deficit and the spending cuts that the state is making to address it.

“Depending on who you ask, in 2024 we dealt with somewhere between a [$50 billion to] $73 billion deficit. The legislature is essentially looking to balance these reductions by putting forth bond measures. What we’re essentially doing is borrowing from the future with these changes, which will put further pressure on later budget years, later fiscal years,” Mr. Gillmore says.
