How to Train your Mind
Manage episode 363670473 series 3280086
In this episode, Prophet Hari teaches on how to train your mind. In Philippians 4:8, the Word says to fix your thoughts, which means that we have the ability to control and direct our thoughts. You don't have to be led by your thoughts, you can lead them. If you don't train your thought-life, you will be dragged in the direction of your strongest thoughts.
In spite of being a king, warrior and one after God's own heart, David was overtaken by lust in his mind. Because he was a man in authority and influence, the consequence of lack of discipline in his thoughts had grave consequences. If you don't train your thoughts, they will train you.
Ideas can produce light and clarity just like they can produce darkness and confusion. A foolish thought about God produces darkness and confusion. There are also another group of people that claim to be wise but God calls them utter fools (Romans 1:18-25, 28).
The Scripture says that the people went on worshipping the creations of their mind, therefore God abandoned them to do their foolish acts. The worst punishment God can give you is to let you do anything you want without reservation. When you no longer carry remorse or conviction in your heart, that is when you can know that God has let you do what you want. You are in the mercy of God when there is still the presence of conviction. The fact that you have sorrow in your heart about your sin is proof that the Spirit of God is still wrestling with you.
It is possible to disobey God without sinning. There is a season where God will wrestle with your heart for you to do something, but once that season comes to an end, the grace to do that particular thing can expire.
In Philippians 4:9 Apostle Paul introduces himself as a standard to imitate. He guaranteed them that imitating him would cause God to be with them. The benefit of having a spiritual father is that you inherit a mindset which becomes a leverage in your life.
Three powerful ways to train your mind:
1. Sanctify your gaze. Be intentional about what you feed your eyes.
In Genesis 15:2, God brought Abraham out of his tent, which represents a thought pattern and a limited way of thinking, and asked him to look out to the heavens and count the stars. God was giving him a new vision; a prophetic imagination. God trains your mind by giving you a prophetic picture. Your perspective must be divinely inspired. If your mindset doesn’t change you won't be able to change.
Science can't explain spiritual laws. In Genesis 30:37 we see that Jacob was trying to re-engineer the DNA of the flocks of sheep by altering what they beheld. Jacob changed their diet and vision and the outcome was changed because the favour of the Lord was resting upon him. A great example of the power of gaze.
2. Monitor the confession of your mouth. You can change your mind by what comes out of your mouth. The Lord re-named Abram to Abraham (which means Father of nations) even before he had a child. A greater Word over Abraham gave him a new picture for his life. Don't speak your feelings if your mind isn't yet renewed. Only speak what God has spoken to you. Speak the truth and what you want to see in your future. The higher you grow in your spiritual stature, the more discretion you use and the less you speak.
3. Walk in prophetic obedience. If your obedience to God needs to make sense to your logical senses, your growth will be very slow. When you are born again, your spirit man is made new, but your mind requires constant renewal. Prophetic obedience doesn’t make sense to the carnal mind. Can you shock your system by obeying God even when it doesn't make sense to you? Go deeper than your logic, and find what the Spirit is saying and telling you to do.
There are locations your spirit can take you to which your mind hasn’t even conceived. Don’t limit yourself on account of what your mind is saying, obey and go where the Spirit is taking you.
