Don't Let The Intro Fool You! - A Chat With Michèle
Manage episode 496869489 series 3665013
Michèle Castiaux joins Roberta for a conversation about how she stumbled into archery, what keeps her coming back, and why sustainability is at the heart of everything she does, even when it comes to making her own arrows.
From coaching and family weekends in the woods to longbows, lost arrows, and eco-conscious decisions, this chat explores how archery can be, amongst a lot of things, surprisingly environmental.
Some sustainability ideas and tips for clubs:
- Every club is different — focus on what works for your community.
- Keep returning to reduce, reuse, recycle — with an emphasis on reduce (waste, consumption, excess gear).
- Ask where your club could do better:
- Avoiding litter
- Reducing waste
- Conserving energy & water
- Promoting sustainable transport
- Protecting biodiversity
- Stick to Leave No Trace principles wherever possible.
- Before buying new items, consider the entire life cycle:
- How and where was it made?
- What’s its environmental and social impact?
- Will it last? Can it be reused or recycled?
- Club members can get their own clothing embroidered instead of buying new, club ones.
- Avoid polyester — it sheds microplastics in wash water.
- Take care of equipment to avoid frequent replacements.
- Support local businesses and avoid harmful suppliers where possible.
Stay in by the wall and mind the arrows!
