Rashad Sanders is a bodybuilder, yoga teacher, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) mindfulness coach who skillfully blends mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and yoga. His mission is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body, mind and soul to exercise the muscle of one's attention to the present moment with breath and various fitness modalities.

In this episode we talk about the power of exploring your past, in order to heal your present, so you can transform your legacy.

In this very deeply personal and transparent conversation, Rashad shares a letter he wrote to his inner child who was deeply wounded, and he explains how those wounds lived unconsciously in his emotions and behaviors until a major life crisis.

Rashad’s traumatic childhood experiences led him to live a life where he was constantly covering things up and hiding to avoid shame, judgment and punishment, until he learned to practice mindfulness as part of his healing journey.

In this show he shares several tools you can use to help transform your traumatic story.

  1. Mindfulness - Taking time to stop and slow down to pay attention to what is happening in the present moment.
  2. Journaling - Writing down your feelings, thoughts and questions that come up throughout your day. As time passes you can go back to see how you’ve made progress.
  3. Inner Child Work - Inner Child work involves exploring and addressing the unresolved emotions and experiences from your childhood that might still be influencing your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions as an adult. The idea is to reconnect with and nurture your "inner child" to promote healing and personal growth. It could involve reflecting on past memories, understanding how they shaped you, and offering yourself the love and understanding you may have needed back then. It's like a therapeutic journey to better understand and care for the younger version of yourself.
  4. Get Grounded - We are energetic beings that are always moving and doing. “Getting grounded” refers to staying present and connected to the current moment. It's about anchoring yourself in the now, rather than letting your mind wander off into worries about the future or dwelling on the past. Think of it as planting your feet firmly on the ground of the present moment and fully experiencing what's happening around you.
  5. Rootwork - Understanding the roots of your generational trauma so you can release baggage that isn’t even yours.
