In this video, Mark Banicevich asks Kate Vennell about the voices of the customer and other stakeholders in the boardroom. They discuss whether those voices are relevant, and how to gather them effectively. They discuss how things differ in not-for-profits and small businesses. Kate then outlines the impact of s131(5) of the Companies Act 1993, allowing directors to consider other stakeholders, and environmental, social and governance factors. Kate also gives advice to someone starting a governance career.
Kate Vennell is an experienced director, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. She is an independent director of financial advice firm Lifetime, Board Trustee of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and Deputy Chair of both Mindful Money, and the Diabetes Foundation Aotearoa. Kate worked almost 10 years at FTSE 100 company Legal and General in the UK, which is the 10th largest investment management firm in the world by assets under management (according to Wikipedia). There her roles included Commercial Finance Director (Life Insurance), and Head of Investor Relations.
