An intellectual movement called the Age of Enlightenment had started at the time period, centered around the idea that reason was the primary source of authority and legitimacy. Revolutionary thinkers were the pivotal force behind this movement. One of such noteworthy philosophers was Immanuel Kant from Germany (back in the day known as East Prussia).
