Day of the Tentacle es un paso en la saga Maniac Mansion del macabrismo de serie B al torrente de locura surrealista de la mano de Tim Schaffer. Y sin embargo, cuando miramos a otras grandes aventuras gráficas que vinieron más adelante, como la ya citada Discworld o Sam & Max Hit the Road (íd.; LucasArts, 1993), e incluso si centramos nuestra mirada en juegos de géneros completamente diferentes, como Psychonauts (íd.; Double Fine Productions, 2005) del propio Schafer, es esa extrañeza intencionada del mundo, esa locura desbordante – aunque lógica dentro de su propio universo –, la que nos que recuerda que hubo un día en el que un tentáculo púrpura quiso conquistar el mundo.
