49| Drama on the Eiger
Manage episode 447606186 series 3517964
Climbing a mountain can be complicated, and enticing and even when life hangs in the balance, men still want more of it.
This, is part of the allure for the North Face of the Eiger. The first attempt up the north face had a 100% mortality rate, and for 4 years after that the mortality rate was 50%.
The wall became known as the “murder wall”, and with a name like that, rescue parties wanted nothing to do with it. If you were crazy enough to climb the Eiger, you got yourself off, or you died.
Welcome back to Tragedy with a View.
The outdoors are a beautiful that can be filled with light and bliss and many different ways to bring yourself closer to those you love and yourself. But they can also be filled with terror and death, imminent and oppressive. Join me as we dig into these stories that inspire you to be just a little bit more careful while you’re in the outdoors.
