Hi Moms! Imagine your favorite ride at an amusement park. It’s exciting but at times a little overwhelming and unpredictable. Raising an autistic child has a variety of experiences…much like an amusement park ride.

Sometimes you are riding high on the joys of motherhood and milestones you weren’t sure would happen. And other times you want to duck for cover for a moment to catch your breath.

It’s like raising any child, but the challenges are different for us.

In this episode, we explore how we can get stuck in our head feeling like it won’t get better in any given moment, and how we can rise above it when we learn to use our innate strengths to succeed.

How Can Moms of Autistics Can Move Past Getting Stuck in Their Heads

Every mom is different. That is one reason there is no manual for parenting, right?

We all have those innate strengths that make us amazing moms, even when autism throws us curveballs. Those strengths will help us hit those balls out of the park. First, we must be aware of our innate strengths, which can be really challenging.

I have mentioned in previous episodes that this is not easy to do. That is why I help moms discover their inner magic in 1:1 coaching sessions in my Thrive VIP Program. Check that out at www.thrivingmomsofautistics.com and click on “Work with Christina.”

Let’s flip the script! Mom strengths can not only help navigate the ups and downs of raising an autistic child but also lead to personal growth and empowerment.

Benefits to using Mom Strengths to Navigate Your Autism Journey

Strengths are individualized. We have different levels of each strength. Some are stronger than others, but you can grow your lesser strengths.

Here are some examples of the benefits of using strengths in challenging times.

Moms with the strength of creativity can think ahead and plan for ways to overcome an obstacle. Their creativity is pretty handy.

Curious moms can build a connection with their child, which allows them to dive deeper to gain an understanding of their experiences. Who doesn’t want to feel heard or understood?

Moms with strong advocacy and leadership skills can help their child bridge the gap and achieve their goals, which is empowering and encouraging.

Nurture your strengths as an Autism Mom

You can nurture your strengths by engaging in self-care. Check out the many episodes on self-care on the home page at www.thrivingmomsofautistics.com and scroll to the bottom to the self-care and boundaries topic.

Every mom is unique. We might share strengths with other moms, but we experience and use them differently. What works for one family might not work for another. The key is to identify your strengths and find creative ways to use them on your autism journey.

You can leverage your innate strengths, which will have an impact on your journey as an autism mom.

Here is a practical tip that you can implement right away in your daily life. Remember, small changes can make a big difference.
