Irvin Groeninger III (commonly referred to by his adoptive name Adam Herrman) was just 12 years old when he place back in the care of the state of Kansas by his adoptive family in 1999, reportedly due to frequent behavior issues. However, when a sibling contacted the state to reconnect with Irvin in 2008, she learned that, according to the state, Irvin never left the custody of the Herrmans.
