How to Involve Your Friends In Your Wedding
Manage episode 235249018 series 2506080
In episode 18 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we’re discussing a wedding phenomenon that's more popular than ever - putting your friends to work on the big day. Our guest this week, screenwriter, actor and activist Alan Flanagan, is the kind of guy whose talents are always requested for weddings - he's been a celebrant, a reader, an MC, a speechgiver, a day-two coordinator and plenty more besides! Your humble hosts have some experience in the field, too - between us, we’ve baked cakes, sang songs, set tables, decorated churches and distributed glow sticks. And our mission this week is to pass on all the knowledge we've picked up along the way, so you can learn from our mistakes!
Episode Breakdown: Episode 18: How to Involve Your Friends In Your Wedding
Wedding tip: This week, Celina offers a handy little tip that makes her a very popular wedding guest!
Main topic: In this episode, we're taking you through the dos and don'ts of getting your friends involved in your wedding. Of course, there’s a huge difference between asking a pro florist to kit out your venue for free, trusting a colleague with a fancy smartphone to take your wedding photographs (please don’t do this, no matter how much Shane from HR insists!), and asking a pal to collect your granny from the train station. During our chat, we briefly touch on all kinds of arrangements but, for the most part, this episode is about asking non-professional friends to play a role your day, be it ceremony reader, guest book manager, conga line leader or speechgiver. And our guest this week is a man who’s got tonnes of experience in this area, screenwriter, actor and activist Alan Flanagan!
Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “My stag is coming up in a couple of weeks and the groomsmen have asked me who I want to invite - am I supposed to ask my Dad along? I discussed it with the Best Man and he said that what they’ve got planned isn’t really "Dad-appropriate", and also, if I invite my Dad, I’ll also have to invite my fiancé’s Dad, uncles, etc. so it’s best to leave him out. But I’m worried my Dad will be offended if he doesn’t get an invite. Help!” Our advice this week is pretty simple - have multiple stag parties!
Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: Celina's recommendation this week is unashamedly frothy - browsing cameo.com to see which celebrities are currently selling shout-outs. Naturally enough, they managed to hook us in - we've ordered one for an upcoming hen party!
