Only 11 years after Columbus “discovered” America, an indigenous leader and his followers rose up against the invading Spaniards, making him the 1st Rebel of the Americas.
Today we tell the story of Hatuey, a chieftain of the Tainos, who defied the tides of history, and became a symbol of indigenous resistance in the Caribbean.
While his name is well-known throughout the Caribbean, his story is not so well-known everywhere else.
