Andy Reiner plays the fiddle and sings. His wife, Joy Adams, plays the cello and banjo and sings. Together, along with a changing lineup of various friends they’ve made along the way, they form the group Half Pelican. The two have known each other for almost ten years, and near the beginning of this time, they were a part of the Pelican Quartet.

At one point, Reiner visited Adams at graduate school in Miami, and she asked him if he wanted to do a show with her. This show, during which they played the cello and the fiddle, was between many different rock band performances. In the end, this was their first performance as Half Pelican, which now fluctuates between being an acoustic band and a metal band.
C.P. Meyer, Doug Armitage, Adam Thompson, and Andy Blaylock have been jamming at various events for years as individual musicians, but as some of them kept running into each other and playing together at different jam sessions, they eventually decided to form a group as the four of them. They named this group Windy Pines, and it officially formed in the spring of 2023. They cite bluegrass, jazz, rock and roll, and swing as some of their favorite styles of music, although they say bluegrass is a particularly strong influence for them.

Oftentimes, they will play cover songs where they’ve completely changed the style of the song. They say that half of the songs they play are covers, with groups such as Phish inspiring their setlist, and that half of the songs they play are completely original.
