In February of 1993 Stony Brook University in New York, featured Dr. Arthur A. Fletcher as a part of their Black History Month Lecture Series. At the time Dr. Fletcher was serving as the Chairman of the United States Civil Rights Commission. He is widely and historically known as “The Father of Affirmative Action”. In the interview you’ll hear him give the history of how it came about based on his efforts. He also talks about how as early as High School he fought against racism!!
Prior to his lecture he was interviewed by Silas W. Kelly, who at the time was a Part-Time Board Operator & Public Affairs Producer/Host at radio station WWHB 107.1 F.M. in Hampton Bays. The name of the station’s Public Affairs program at the time was “Where You Live”. Also, at that time Silas was a Student at Suffolk County Community College in Selden, NY majoring in Broadcast Tele-Communications. He was an Honor’s Student and the recipient of a Minority Achiever’s Scholarship. During this time Silas was also serving a one-year term as the duly elected Student Trustee on the College’s Board of Trustees.
