On this episode of The Dork Knight, we discuss Batman, The Doom that Came to Gotham. We will discuss the movie and touch base on the original story.
DC Comics printed Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham as a three-part comic book series between November 2000 and January 2001. The series was part of DC Comics' Elseworlds collection.
Mike Mignola and Richard Pace penned a gripping tale, complemented by Troy Nixey's pencils and Dennis Janke's inks, with Mignola creating the covers. The story unveils an unconventional version of Batman built in the 1920s who contends with magical and otherworldly occurrences sweeping Gotham after waking the once-dormant entity known as the Lurker on the Threshold.
In 2023, a movie of the same title was created based on the comic, with a loose adaptation.
Mignola has created a third installment for the protagonist, incorporating many elements inspired by Lovecraft. Expect to see familiar faces such as Green Arrow, Etrigan, Two-Face, and Ra's al Ghul alongside other characters. As an ode to Lovecraft, the story's title references The Doom That Came to Sarnath.
DC ultimately compiled the story, and it was eventually published in 2015 as a trade paperback.
